Curtis Dennis (He/Him)
Founding Member
When the doors of Momentum Education opened for the very first time, Curtis Dennis, an original member of the Founder's Team, was there laying the contextual foundation that all of Momentum's workshops, courses, and seminars are based on. He has served in a range of training, administrative, operations and policy positions over the years, and now, as a Board Member, he advises Momentum's Executive Team.
Curtis began studying transformational distinctions in 1993, and describes his background as a “medley of adventures” that includes two decades in aviation marketing, a stint as the co-producer of a morning radio show, two years as a proprietary software trainer, and more than 10 years on the staff of one of the world's most famous entertainment moguls. However, Momentum Education -- with its focus on "life's possibilities" -- is the thread that runs through all of it.
An activist since the age of 13, Curtis carried petitions to change the voting age from 21 to 18; marched for Puerto Rican independence; served on a task force committed to the fair and equitable treatment of people with AIDS; worked to dismantle South Africa’s apartheid system; advocated for people with disabilities; co-founded a program to improve adult literacy and, more recently, has worked on criminal justice reform as well as in the movement to protect democracy in the aftermath of the 2016 Presidential election. "My prayer," he says, "is that through activism and service to others, I'll leave the planet better than I found it."
The former foster parent to seven special-needs children, Curtis is affectionately known in the Momentum Community as "Uncle Curtis" and the "Godfather of Transformation." That, in part, is due to his willingness to share his time and his philosophy, which he says is based on don Miguel Ruiz’s “The Four Agreements:”
1. Be impeccable with your word;
2. Don't take anything personally;
3. Don't make assumptions; and
4. Always do your best.
